Raw materials for the production of paper cups and straws
Raw material used by paper cup manufacturers is typically pure PO paper, and the surface is coated with 1 or 2 layers of PE to prevent water absorption and paper dissolution. Pure PO paper is usually made from wood pulp, bagasse and complementary materials. Paper is categorized as follows:
- Printing paper for books and newspapers: good tensile strength and ink absorbency; this type of paper involves bleaching by chemical processing.
- Industrial packaging paper: we often see this type of paper used for cement bagging, cardboard, or industrial product packaging. Generally, this type of paper is recycled but unrefined, so it may contain hazardous substances.
- Food grade PO paper: this type of paper is used for the production of paper cups, straws, food boxes, medicine packages, etc. This type of paper contains zero harmful substances, making it pure and safe for consumers. Typical PO paper has an opaque white color due to the non-chemical bleaching process.
New Star Paper uses bagasse-based paper for straw production. The product is durable and water-resistant due to the crystallization from cellulose fibers found in sugarcane. And the straw can be in Hot/Cold water for up to 24 hours. Paper cups are manufactured with high-grade paper imported from Finland, making them safe and eco-friendly.

Paper cup production process:
For plain paper cups: Without going through the printing process, paperboard reels are cut into cup sidewall blanks, then transferred directly to the cup forming machines. The cups proceed to product quality check. After the inspection, the qualified products will be packed and transferred to the finished product warehouse.

For paper cups with Flexo printing: The paperboard reels are run through the Flexo printing press, then cut into cup sidewall blanks and passed through the cup forming machines. After passing the product quality check, the qualified products will be packed and transferred to the finished product warehouse.
For paper cups with Offset printing: Paperboard reels are separated into sheets, which will be put through the Offset printer. After printing, they will be measured and cut, then transferred to the cup forming machines followed by the product quality check. After the inspection, the qualified products will be packed and transferred to the finished product warehouse.
For paper cups with screen printing: Paperboard reels are measured, cut, and transferred to the cup-forming machines. When the cups are properly formed, they are sent to be screen printed, then to the product quality check after the ink is dried. After the inspection, the qualified products will be packed and transferred to the finished product warehouse.

Paper straw manufacturing process
Reels of paper are divided into smaller reels, which then pass through the winding machine to be wound into long cylinder tubes. These tubes are then cut to size and passed through the dying stage, Once the drying is complete, the finished products will be transferred to product quality check for inspection. The qualified products will be packed and transferred to the finished product warehouse for shipment. Slanting or packaging can also be done per request.
